Born Valvin Merteen Roane, II, “ V ” was nicknamed at an early age by his father, which stuck with him till this day. Raised in South Jersey, V heard his first Jackson 5 album at age 3 and immediately started mimicking Michael Jackson. V’s mother and father were both influential members of the local church, and dedicated members of the gospel choir. While attending Drexel University, V began singing in the school gospel choir where he was elected by fellow members to sing solo during a tribute to then-Philadelphia Mayor Wilson Goode. V also frequently sang the national anthem at Drexel home games. It was at Drexel that V first met renowned producer, James Poyser, who would eventually play keyboards for V when he performed locally. Eventually V found his way to singing back-up on Christopher Williams’ first album under the direction of producer Nick Martinelli at the famous Sigma Sound Studios. Soon after, V released his first single, “It’s Raining” through Up & Up Productions, which received significant airplay on local radio station Power 99 and reached #1 on its “9 at 9” countdown. It was this experience that lead V to A Touch of Jazz, where V’s talents were further developed with the assistance of Jazzy Jeff through production and writing assignments on Will Smith’s “Big Willie Styles” and Musiq Soulchild’s “Juslisen”, among other projects. V’s style has been compared to Marvin Gaye and Donny Hathaway, among others, and he has spent recent years writing and creating songs for numerous artists. V has also recorded scores of songs for his album, which will be out in the coming months, so keep your eyes and ears open for him!
